E-Noodles Asian Bistro in North Myrtle Beach SCWelcome to our discussion and review of E-Noodles Asian Bistro, located on Highway 17 southbound in North Myrtle Beach, SC- Good Info for Snowbirds and Those Who Think Outside the Coupon Books!E-NOODLES Put a bistro atmosphere together with a character like Eddie Kwong, and you get E-Noodles & Co, a popular Asian restaurant with locations in both Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach. We have a thing about Chinese food for some reason. Unfortunately, in the Myrtle Beach area, most of the Chinese food comes via the ubiquitous buffet. Sigh. We DID find a couple of New York style Chinese take out places, which we talk about here, but to actually go out and eat a nice sit-down meal, it's kind of hard to find around the Myrtle Beach area. Once again, we followed the lead of a few people who live here year-round, and tried E-Noodles. Then we tried it again. And then again. Then we brought friends there... Now, E-Noodles is NOT like a typical Chinese restaurant. If you are truly looking for the typical take out, may we suggest visiting my Chinese Food page here in the Myrtle Beach Restaurant section of the site, where I talk about a few good places. Anyway, back to E-Noodles... We've been to E-Noodles several times over the course of two winters, and find it to be a very comfortable and enjoyable restaurant. As a side note: We've only been to the North Myrtle Beach location at 110 Highway 17 South. There is a Myrtle Beach location at 400 20th Avenue South, but we rarely venture down that far south in town. Aside from the food, we especially enjoy Eddie Kwong, himself. He has owned his original Myrtle Beach branch of E-Noodles since around 2003, and opened the North Myrtle Beach branch in 2007. His deeply resonant voice is always confident and welcoming, every single time we have visited there. When I ordered the Vietnamese Noodle Bowl, Eddie came over to the table to show me how to try some of the different sauces that accompanied the meal. He is truly a charmer! E-Noodles prices are quite reasonable, with appetizers ranging from $1.85 for 3 Vietnamese Crab Spring Rolls to $6.35 for Fried Calamari. While you can find the ever-familiar Pot Stickers, Crab Rangoon and Chicken Wings (some of my favorites) on the appetizer menu, you may find yourself tempted to try Shitake Mushrooms, stuffed with chicken, Shrimp Stuffed Eggplant, or even Scallop Dumplings. For soups, we have enjoyed Eddie Kwong's version of Seafood Tom Yum Soup, which includes shrimp, scallops and mussels. Other soups include Shanghai Style Wonton Soup, and Tofu Miso Soup. The first time we went to E-Noodles, we both ordered what Eddie calls "Lunch Bowls." John really enjoyed the Red Curry Lunch Bowl, which was a generous and satisfying serving. John said it was quite flavorful; he likes his Asian food a bit hotter (spicier, that is), but he had no problem devouring it! I tried the Vietnamese Noodle Soup, which I have to say is the largest serving of soup I have ever had. It was amazing! Besides noodles (pho style noodles), the bowl included sliced beef tenderloin, cilantro, onion, garlic, bean sprouts and scallions. (see the photo of this one!). Eddie brought over lime, Hoisin sauce, and a hot chili sauce, and showed me how to add the flavors to different spoonfuls. I am hooked on this soup! As I said, the serving was enormous, and even John couldn't help me finish all of it. We had a very nice little snack at home later on! And the cost of the Vietnamese Noodle Soup was only $7.60. Hard to complain about that!
As I mentioned, E-Noodles & Co. is not a "Chinese Take Out" restaurant – so don't expect a list of Chow Mein, Moo Shu, Lo Mein, etc . But for those of you who really want something like that, Eddie does feature a "Classic Chinese Lo Mein" that is very reasonably priced at $7.45 for your choice of chicken, beef, pork or tofu, and $8.45 for your choice of shrimp, scallops, or calamari. He also offers "General Chicken" for $8.55 as well as Fried Rice... Really, though – if you want a standard Chinese take out meal, that's fine. But, if you are at E-Noodles, I hope you'll try one of Eddie's more unique dishes so that you get a different Asian dining experience. I've already got my eye on the Spicy Sauteed Udon ($7.95 - $8.95), the Singapore Mei Fun ($6.95 - $8.45), or the Beef Tenderloin with Black Pepper Sauce ($9.45). While we've eaten at a variety of different places over the course of the last 2 winters, we'll write about a handful of them here. At this time, we would like to invite you to learn a little about the following places: |
