We are John & Kathy Tremblay, your hosts here at Fine Resort Vacation. We currently split our time between the mountains of northern New Hampshire in the summer, and (2011) on the coast of Florida in the winter. Our last 3 winters were spent on the coast of South Carolina.
We love to travel, which was why we joined Global Resorts Network (GRN) to begin with.
One of the reasons we were so attracted to this luxury travel membership was that we were (and still are) extremely frustrated with timeshare ownership. We have put together a true comparison - based on our own story and our own experiences - showing the difference between our timeshare ownership and our luxury travel vacation club membership that we purchased through GRN. Once we show others these comparisons, the value of our exclusive travel club becomes crystal clear.
In fact, we wrote an article called "Timeshare: Deal or No Deal?" last year that was published at EzineArticles.com based on our experiences. You can read the entire article here! But for now, here are some of the most important facts and comparisons we would like to share:
- Timeshare ownership can cost an average of $16,000. Ours cost approximately $5,000 back in 1997.
- Our Luxury Vacation membership has one low cost to join - $4,995 for a lifetime membership (or $2,995 for a 3-year membership. Upgrades available for $2,500)
- Timeshare ownership dues/fees range from $300 - $1,000. As of 2011, ours now runs approximately $537 per year, with an additional $139 - $200 if we want to attempt to trade it.
- Vacation membership does not have annual dues or maintenance fees. We ALSO had to pay a "special assessment" fee to our Timeshare Association last year for more than $400! There was NO WAY we could escape it. Here, with GRN, you never pay for a vacation unless you actually take one.
- Timeshare ownership - defaulting on yearly dues could jeopardize ownership - but even worse than that, your account will likely be turned over to a credit collection agency, and your credit could be damaged as well.
- A GRN vacation membership - you join once, you're a member for life (if you purchase the Platinum membership), with no extra or hidden fees.
- Timeshare ownership exchanges are difficult and costly. Again, it costs approx $139 - $200 to trade, and in the more than 10 years we owned this timeshare, we never, ever got the trades we wanted. This was very frustrating. Oh sure, we could always trade to go somewhere - but, frankly, we just don't really want to go to Branson, MO or the Poconos in November. Nothing against either of these destinations, but they just aren't places we want to visit at this time.
- A GRN vacation membership means no more exchanging, and members choose from more than 5,000 luxury resort properties worldwide.
- Timeshare ownership has maximum depreciation on the investment worth approximately 10 cents on the dollar (if that! As of December 2011, we STILL can't get rid of ours!).
- Vacation membership has retained its full value for the last 21 years (there is a $75 transfer fee if you want to sign your membership over to someone else).
- Timeshare ownership means that the owners may pay additional fees for property remodeling and renovations. And I have never seen the annual fees decrease. Remember what I said above aobut the "special asseessment" we had to pay in 2010!
- A GRN vacation membership means that the members do not share in remodeling or renovation costs. Members simply pay for the weeks they purchase when they are ready to book their vacation.
As you browse the site, take note of any questions you might have, and then feel free to either email or call us. All our contact information can be found at the "Contact Us" page, located in the tabs on the left hand side of the site. We will get back to you as soon as possible! Hopefully, you can clearly see why we love this membership so much, and who knows? Maybe we'll see you on vacation one day!
Thank you again for your interest!
John & Kath
PS: If you still have a timeshare - and if you are like us and cannot seem to get rid of it, you might as well learn how to use it as best you can. To that end, we are offering The Timeshare Exchange Bible for Interval International members. Click Here to instantly access your own copy of The Timeshare Exchange Bible. But please note: if you do NOT have a timeshare, we truly cannot - in good faith - recommend that you purchase one. This Timeshare Exchange Bible is really for people who, like us, have one we can't seem to use or get rid of easily. Thanks, and Good Luck!
